The National Academic Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan was opened in 2004. Despite the fact that its history is relatively young, it has become a national treasure, a place of inspiration and enlightenment, creative meetings and business discussions, conferences and various exhibitions.

The path to the library begins from Baiterek monument, the Astana city main symbol, which personifies rebirth, light and aspiration for the future. The National Academic Library is not just a repository of books, but a unique center of culture, science and education. It hospitably opens its doors to all readers’ categories: scientists, researchers, students, schoolchildren and all who strive for knowledge. It contains rare manuscripts, valuable collections and an electronic library covering the richest literary heritage of the country and the world.

The modern 5-story library building with a total area of 15,000 sq.m. harmoniously fits into the architectural ensemble of the capital city, combining traditions and the latest technologies. Cozy reading rooms with 900 seats, multimedia spaces, coworking and relaxation areas create ideal conditions for work and creativity. The library collection contains about 1,5 million storage items. The 450-meter-long Telelift monorail transport system delivers literature from the storage facilities to readers in a few minutes.

Another pride of the library is the Book Museum, which displays exhibits that reveal the evolution of writing and book printing in Kazakhstan. Here you can see rare manuscripts and facsimile editions, unique examples of national book art and book printing.

The library is home to the Kazakhstan National Electronic Library kazneb.kz (http://kazneb.kz/en), which opened access to its resources in 2007. The electronic library has made a significant contribution to the development of Kazakhstani content on the Internet. All libraries in the country, state and public organizations, and authors take part in filling and expanding the KazNEB collection. A visit to the library will not only be an immersion into the world of knowledge for guests of the capital, but also an opportunity to experience the spirit of modern Kazakhstan – open, innovative and looking to the future.
