The International School of Astana, a branch of Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools, proudly opened its doors in 2013. It is a modern educational institution that integrates advanced teaching methodologies and innovative approaches to student development. The school is fully authorized to offer all three International Baccalaureate programmes — the Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP), and Diploma Programme (DP). It is accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and recognized by the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan as an institution with the official status of an “International School.”
Alongside the school’s opening in 2013, a library was established that has since evolved into a modern resource and information center, playing a vital role in the educational process. The library collection includes over 70,000 items encompassing fiction, academic, educational, periodical, and supplementary publications in multiple languages, as well as a wide range of electronic resources.
The library features comfortable zones for both individual and group work, as well as state-of-the-art multimedia spaces that enable students to use digital technologies and online resources in their projects.
It plays a key role in supporting the school’s academic programs and actively implements various NIS initiatives such as, READx», Reading Time, “A Book Conquers the World,” and “Reading with NIS.” These programs aim to foster a culture of reading, critical thinking, and a love for literature.
The library also organizes various events focused on developing functional literacy and research skills.
Teacher-librarians take an active part in integrated lessons, helping students enhance their inquiry skills, digital literacy, and effective use of library resources.
Furthermore, our teacher-librarians share their expertise at the national level, conducting professional development sessions for public school colleagues and disseminating best practices and innovative approaches in the field of school librarianship.
