Library Visits

All Library Visits will take place on Friday, 22 August 2025.

These are visits to local libraries in Astana, which can be made by walking or taking a bus trip within the city. If applicable, participants will be charged a minimal fee to cover the transportation costs. These costs are not included in the conference registration fee.

National Academic Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan

The National Academic Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan was opened in 2004. Despite the fact that its history is relatively young, it has become a national treasure, a place of inspiration and enlightenment, creative meetings and business discussions, conferences and various exhibitions.

The path to the library begins from Baiterek monument, the Astana city main symbol, which personifies rebirth, light and aspiration for the future. The National Academic Library is not just a repository of books, but a unique center of culture, science and education. It hospitably opens its doors to all readers’ categories: scientists, researchers, students, schoolchildren and all who strive for knowledge. It contains rare manuscripts, valuable collections and an electronic library covering the richest literary heritage of the country and the world.

The NU Library was established in September 2010. Since then, it has evolved into the center of intellectual life at the university, continually expanding its resources and services, including books, journals, digital databases, and other materials to support the academic and research needs of students, faculty, and staff.

Astana City Libraries: Specialized library for blind and visually impaired citizens of Astana

The library was opened in 1970 and underwent major renovation in 2023. Its area is 250 m2. The library’s book collection consists of printed, dotted, voiced and periodicals in flat font. Today, the library’s book collection consists of 210,000 copies, and the number of its users is 1,800 people, including 380 blind and visually impaired readers.

In 2024, 11,000 people visited the library, and 36,000 copies of printed publications were issued.

Open to the public, this library promotes reading culture among students, faculty, and visitors, creating an environment conducive to learning and personal development.

Astana City Libraries: Central Children’s and Youth Library 

The library was opened in 1987 and has a total area of 730 m2 with cozy reading rooms, coworking spaces and a book depository. The library has more than 160,000 copies of books and other printed publications, and it serves more than 7,000 readers. About 60,000 readers of different ages and categories visit it annually.

The research library of L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University (ENU) is an important educational and scientific center of the university.

The library has reading rooms and home loan deparments in two buildings, providing users with 830 seats, as well as two computer classes totally with 150 personal computers with Internet access, printers, scanners and other necessary equipment.

Astana City Libraries: Children’s Library in the Almaty district

The library was founded in 2012 and is located on the first floor of a multi-storey building. The area of the library is 1,250 m2. The library’s book collection contains 37,780 copies, the number of readers is 3,426, book issue in 2024 was 53,862 copies, more than 32,500 people visit the library annually.

Astana City Libraries: Children’s Library in the Yesil district

The library was opened in the Yesil district of Astana in 2024 as a result of the implementation of the order of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev at a meeting on the development of the city of Astana and in a short time it became a popular center for children’s reading and creativity, attracting more and more readers.

The area of the library is 340 m2, and its book collection is more than 3,500 copies, including colorful illustrated publications, fairy tales, educational and fiction literature for children of different ages. It is equipped with personal computers with Internet access, as well as Wi-Fi access points. There are comfortable areas for reading and cultural recreation.

The International School of Astana, a branch of Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools, proudly opened its doors in 2013. It is a modern educational institution that integrates advanced teaching methodologies and innovative approaches to student development. The school is fully authorized to offer all three International Baccalaureate programmes — the Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP), and Diploma Programme (DP).
