Session title: Influence of Open Science in Scholarly Communication: Practical actions for librarians and other information professionals

Theme: “This session will showcase transition, growth and innovation in open science research practices by sharing practical and actionable ideas for open science research services.

Introduction

The IFLA Serials and Other Continuing Resources Section, IFLA Information Technology Section, and the IFLA Advisory Committee on Open Science and Scholarship are seeking proposals for Ignite talks to be presented at a session at the IFLA World Library and Information Congress in Astana, Kazakhstan, 18-22 August 2025. Ignite presentations are no longer than 7 minutes per speaker. Authors are expected to complete a paper for deposit in the IFLA repository.

This Ignite session aims to provide a gathering space for information professionals to share their activities that support open science research and publishing. While the range of focus areas under “open science” is broad, the session emphasizes practical guidance for the audience. This will contribute to a vibrant global community of open science library practitioners (IFLA Strategy Impact Area 1). We also enthusiastically embrace the “Uniting Knowledge” theme of the congress by providing a platform for short, engaging, synopses of successful and/or innovative practices that audience members can consider and adopt for their work in the field of open science. The session will provide time for discussion and connections to form between presenters and the audience.

Successful proposals will describe how the presentation will:

  • inspire actionable ideas on open science services or programs,
  • provide practical takeaways, and
  • create an opportunity for genuine connections with attendees
